Body of man in his 70s found at sea in Teelin, Co Donegal

A man's body was found at sea off the coast of Donegal last night after a small fishing boat was discovered nearby.

The Coast Guard and Gardai launched a search after the vessel was washed up on the rocks near Sliabh Liag.

In a follow up search involving Malin Head RNLI and local Gardaí, the body of a local fisherman in his 70s was recovered from the water shortly before midnight.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told The Irish Daily Mirror: "He was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to Letterkenny Hospital where a post-mortem examination has been arranged.

"A file will be prepared for the Coroner."

Meanwhile, searches are ongoing in Kerry for another missing fisherman, RTE reports.

Two men were fishing on rocks at Kerry Head at around 8.30pm last night when they were swept into the water.

One of the men managed to get back to shore and raised the alert.

Valentia Coast Guard launched a search involving the Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter, Fenit RNLI, Ballybunion Coast Guard Unit and Glenderry Coast Guard unit.

The coastguard helicopter based in Waterford was also tasked to the scene.
