Body of man in his 20s found in a tent

The body of a man was found in a tent on a street in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Police were called to 'concerns over the welfare of a man' on Portland Street South, which is near to the Portland Basin, at around 1pm yesterday (Thursday).

Sadly, the man - aged in his 20s - was pronounced dead at the scene.

The M.E.N understands he was found in a tent on the street.

Police said there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At about 1pm on 24 June 2021, officers were called to Portland Street South, Ashton-under-Lyne, to concerns over the welfare of a man.

"NWAS also attended but, sadly, a man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances."
