The body of man in his 50s has been pulled from the River Irwell, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were scrambled to Clifton Country Park, in Salford, this morning (March 14).

Three police cars, three fire engines and two ambulances were seen on the car park, along with numerous other emergency service vehicles stationed throughout the park.

Underwater search teams, a CSI van and specialist search units were also sent to the park and a cordon was set up on the east side of the marina, closest to the River Irwell.

Just before 6pm, police confirmed a body had been found.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly after 10.45am on Sunday 14 March 2021, police were called to reports that a possible body had been found in the River Irwell in Clifton Country Park in Salford.

"Emergency services attended and sadly the body of a man - believed to be in his 50s - was recovered from the water.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
