Body of man found in pond following major emergency service response

A man's body has been found in a pond after a huge emergency service response descended upon woodland close to Wigan.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were all called to Tawd Valley Park, in Skelmersdale, Lancashire, earlier this afternoon (Friday February 10). A scene was in place around the Half Mile Island roundabout and the woodland surrounding Half Mile Island fishing lake, LancsLive reports.

Lancashire Police have now confirmed that the body of a man has been found. His death is currently being treated as 'unexplained'.

A force spokesman said: "We were called to Tawd Valley Park, Skelmersdale, at 2.11pm today (February 10) to reports a body had been found in a pond. Emergency services have attended and sadly found the body of a man. His death is currently being treated as unexplained."
