Body of man found in fire-ravaged Perth retail park named by police

The body of a man found inside a Perth retail park ravaged by a devastating fire has been named by police .

Jamie East, 33, was discovered at the St Catherine's Retail Park following a blaze on Saturday August 24.

Officers previously believed the identity of the body to be the Perth man, but Police Scotland today confirmed the grim news.

More than 50 firefighters tackled the early morning inferno, which affected B&M, Pets at Home and an empty unit.

It is still unclear what caused the fire, but previous police statements have suggested it may have been suspicious.

A total of 63 pets were evacuated from the Pets at Home store while dozens of firefighters tackled the blaze, which also affected B&M and a vacant outlet.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Mr East’s family are being provided with appropriate support, and have asked that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.
