Body of man, 38, pulled from river after falling from bridge in Pontyclun

An investigation has been launched after a 38-year-old man died following a fall from a bridge in Pontyclun.

South Wales Police has confirmed the death of a 38-year-old man in Pontyclun following an incident which occurred at about 8.30pm on Wednesday, June 16.

The man’s body was recovered from a shallow river following a fall from a bridge on Cowbridge Road. He died at the scene despite the best efforts of the emergency services, a police spokesperson said.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is now underway. A 50-year-old man is assisting officers with the investigation, and specially trained officers are supporting the family of the deceased.

Chief Inspector Anthony Williams said: “We are investigating this incident in which one man has tragically lost his life. Our role is to piece together the events which led up to his death and also provide support to the families affected.”

An air ambulance landed at the scene on Wednesday, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The A4222 Cowbridge Road at Pontyclun was shut in both directions, between the The Ivor Arms Pub and Millfield Road for four hours as the recovery and investigation work got underway.
