Body of man, 29, found in woods seven months after he went missing

The body of a 29-year-old man has been found seven months after he was reported missing.

Doug Carroll, from Tunbridge Wells in Kent, was last seen on April 20.

The following day, his vehicle was found near the Ridgeway in Compton, West Berkshire, with police launching a search for him.

Weeks ago, police released a new appeal to mark six months since Doug disappeared, Berkshire Live reports.

However, on Tuesday this week, a body was found in woods near Moulsford in Oxfordshire and although formal identification is yet to take place, the remains are believed to be Doug, Kent Live reports.

Doug's car was seen in West Berkshire on April 21 (Thames Valley Police)

Detective Sergeant Nathan Adby, based at Abingdon police station, said: "Sadly, a member of the public has found a man’s body and we believe this to be Doug.

"His next of kin have been informed and are being offered support.

"We would like to thank everyone who shared our appeal to find Doug. Our thoughts are with all of Doug’s friends and family at this very difficult time."

In a tweet, Thames Valley Police said: "Our thoughts are with Doug's family and friends."

The death is being treated as unexplained but is not believed to be suspicious.

Police said a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Doug's partner Emma Tapp, 30, said she last saw him on April 20 when he was due to start a new job, Kent Online reports.

In May, she said: "He had gone off for a new job that morning but it was not going to work out and he came home. When I got home he was just gone.

"I just knew something was wrong."

She explained Doug had been out of work for a number of months and had struggled with his mental health in the past, but was making progress dealing with it.
