A pensioner whose body was found in the Aberdeen home which she shared with her elderly husband may have died up to 12 years ago.
The woman, named locally as Christina Malley, was discovered within the property at Allison Close, Cove, on February 25.
The alarm was raised after nurses attended at the property looking for the pensioner who had failed to turn up for her Covid-19 vaccination.
When asked where she was, the woman’s husband allegedly said she was abroad.
The remains of Mrs Malley, who would have been in her 80s, were later discovered within the property sparking a police investigation.
Officers are still trying to determine exactly when and how she died but fears have been raised that it may have been more than a decade ago, the Evening Express reports.
A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed that inquiries into the circumstances remain ‘ongoing’.
The ground floor property has been boarded up while specialist forensic officers examined the home for clues.
A police spokesman said: “Officers were called to an address in Allison Close, Aberdeen, on Thursday, 25 February 2021, after the body of a woman was found within.
“The death is being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
