Body of elderly man found inside Adelaide house destroyed by fire

MFS crews were called to the house this morning.

An elderly man has died in a fire that engulfed a house and caused its roof to collapse in Adelaide's north-east this morning.

Emergency services were called to the home on Tarana Avenue at Ingle Farm about 5:15am.

The house was fully alight when crews arrived at the scene, SA Police said.

Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) crews battled the blaze and were able to bring it under control quickly.

The body of an 89-year-old man was found inside when crews searched through the premises.

The MFS described the fire as "intense", requiring 25 firefighters to extinguish.

It said the fire gutted the home and caused the roof to collapse.

"Dangerous conditions have made searching the home difficult for crews," the MFS said.

The damage bill is estimated to be around $300,000.

Fire cause investigators were at the scene this morning to assist with the investigation, but the fire is not believed to be suspicious.

SA Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

The incident follows the death of a 71-year-old man in a house fire at St Morris, in Adelaide's east, last month.

In May, well-known South Australian harness racing figure Dick White, 85, died in a house fire at Globe Derby Park.
