The body of a baby boy has been found inside the walls of a home, with his mum admitting she brought the remains with her while moving houses.
Officials from the Child and Youth Services (CYS) department visited Kylie Wilt's home last week to ask where her baby was.
The 25-year-old mum reportedly told them he was in North Carolina, being watched by someone else.
However, the woman then changed her version of facts and said the five-month-old baby had died in February of sudden infant death syndrome at the house where she lived with him and his father, Alan Hollis.
CYS has been previously investigating the baby's health as he was born with THC, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis, the New York Post reports.
Wilt told police that after the baby died she became nervous and did not know what to do.
She and her boyfriend then moved to another house three blocks away with their three other children - taking the baby's body with them.
The mum told officers she had hidden the baby's corpse as she did not have enough money for a funeral.
Wilt is facing one count each of concealing the death of a child, abuse of a corpse, obstruction of justice, welfare fraud, and tampering with evidence, KDKA reports.
The father is also facing charges of obstructing the administration of law or other governmental functions.
Robin Stasicha, a former neighbour of the couple, said she used to hear the baby crying all the time - but suddenly, the cries stopped.
She told KDKA: "I used to hear the baby crying all the time. And all of a sudden, it didn’t one day and didn’t see them bringing him in and out and didn’t figure this is what happened."
She then asked the property manager about the baby, as she explained: "I told her I hadn’t seen the baby and I was concerned, and she said the baby passed away.
"I was thinking, I’m here all the time. I never saw an ambulance. Wouldn’t you call 911 if your baby wasn’t responding to you?"
CYS said Wilt had initially lied about the whereabouts of the child, who had died in February and was placed in a crate.
When the family moved to their new home, she placed the crate inside her bedroom wall before covering it with drywall and new paint.
Police were able to find the child's body when visiting the house.
Wilt's sister claimed she did not know the baby was missing and that Hollis was abusive to her sister, keeping her isolated from their family.
The baby's cause of death is still under investigation.
