Body of a man found in North Berwick in search for missing Edinburgh man Richard Forbes

A body of a man has been recovered in North Berwick in the search for missing Edinburgh dad.

Police confirmed the body had been found yesterday, May 6, near to the Canty Bay area.

Formal identification is still to take place however police confirmed the family of missing Richard Forbes, 52, have been informed.

Dad-of-two Richard, a restaurant owner from Edinburgh, went missing on March 18.

He had last been seen at the Drift Cafe at the popular Scots beauty spot of Canty Bay in North Berwick.

His desperate family issued appeals to the public for information

A major police operation to trace him was launched to find Richard, who owns the Smoke Stack eatery in Edinburgh’s Broughton Street.

Niece Hannah Campbell wrote on social media: “In an already stressful time, this situation has been made much more worrying for all of us involved. Please let’s get him home safe.”

Following the recovery of a body yesterday, a police spokesperson said: “Police Scotland can confirm that the body of a man has been recovered from the Canty Bay area of North Berwick.

“The body has still to be formally identified, but the family of Richard Forbes, 52, reported missing from Edinburgh on Wednesday, 18 March, 2020, has been informed.

“There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
