Body of 42-year-old man found in forest in Carmarthenshire

Police are investigating a sudden death after the body of a 42-year-old man was discovered in Carmarthenshire.

The body was found near the village of Brechfa last Thursday morning.

The man is understood to be 42-year-old Stuart Thomas, from Lower Brynaman.

The cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Emergency services were called to a rural area to the north of the village of Brechfa last Thursday morning and the body was later discovered in the Brechfa Forest.

Rescue boats from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and assisted police in the operation.

An eyewitness who lives in Brechfa said they heard sirens and saw a number of police cars in the area at around lunchtime on Thursday, while the Welsh Ambulance Service has confirmed it sent two emergency ambulances to the scene.

HM Coroner has been notified of the death and an inquest has been opened and adjourned to a later date.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: “We are investigating the sudden death of a 42-year-old man from Neath Port Talbot, whose body was found in Brechfa Forest, Carmarthen, on Thursday morning (March 28).

“His death is not being treated as suspicious. Next of kin and HM Coroner have been informed.”
