Accused murderer of young mother faces court after gruesome backyard discovery

A man has appeared in court charged with murder after a body, believed to be missing mother-of-two Fahima Yusuf, was discovered in the backyard of a Perth house.

The body was found at the Carlisle property on Wednesday and has not yet been formally identified, but police said they believed it was 32-year-old Ms Yusuf.

Ahmed Seedat, 36, who police said was known to the woman, was charged with murder after the discovery.

Dozens of forensic investigators descended on the Weston Street property early on Wednesday morning and established a large crime scene.

Areas of the backyard were dug up as part of the investigation.

"The residence has been searched and a deceased person has been located in the rear yard. The deceased person is believed to be Ms Yusuf," a police spokesman said.

"Homicide Squad detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident, and would like to speak to anyone who spoke to Ms Yusuf in recent weeks."

Police forensic officers worked through the night at the house and a coroner's van was seen leaving the property.

Couple with children lived at home: neighbours

Neighbours said a couple with two young children lived at the house.

One neighbour said detectives came knocking on their doors about 9:00pm on Tuesday.

She said they collected hours of CCTV from the camera outside her house.

She was told by detectives her neighbour had not been seen since 5:30am on Friday.

A neighbour said one of the children who lived at the house was pulled out of class on Tuesday.

Others said they had not seen or heard anything out of the ordinary on the street in recent days.

Mr Seedat was remanded in custody to reappear on September 26.
