Body found on Wirral coast confirmed as missing fisherman

A body found washed up on the Wirral coast has been identified as missing fisherman Alan Minard.

The 20-year-old's body was discovered on rocks at Meols in Wirral, on Sunday, March 14.

Mr Minard vanished alongside Ross Ballantine, 39 and Carl McGrath, 34, after they headed out on the 'Nicola Faith' fishing boat from Conwy on January 27.

The bodies of crew members Mr McGrath and Mr Ballantine were identified last week.

In an update on Tuesday, North Wales Police said: "We can confirm that the body found on The Wirral on Sunday, March 14 is that of 20-year-old Alan Minard, who went missing along with two others on the Conwy Fishing boat 'Nicola Faith' in January.

"The family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

"The family would like to thank the local community and businesses for their tremendous support and donations, and request that their privacy be respected at this time.

"The thoughts of everyone at North Wales Police remains with the families and friends of the three fishermen."

On Monday, March 22, North Wales Police confirmed that a body found in Blackpool on March 13 had been identified as Carl McGrath.

In a further update the following day, the force said the body found at West Kirby on Friday, March 12 was that of Ross Ballantine.

A search for the missing fishing vessel is continuing, led by a deep-sea recovery expert.

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch is also carrying out an investigation, and has been involved in searches off the coast of North Wales.
