Body found on train tracks between Aberdeen and Dundee

Trains have been cancelled between and today after a body was found on the tracks.

The line has been closed until at least 12.30pm while British Transport Police deal with the incident.

As a result, ScotRail has put on bus replacements in order to deal with the disruption on the line.

Cops are attempting to contact the person's next of kind. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A ScotRail spokesperson said: "The line between Dundee & Aberdeen is currently closed in both directions.

"Our Edinburgh/Glasgow - Aberdeen services will only run between & .

"We've arranged with @StagecoachEScot to accept valid rail tickets & Smartcards on these bus routes only: Service 30 & 30A between Arbroath & Montrose Service 39A, 73 & 73A between Dundee & Arbroath."

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: "British Transport Police was called at 10.37am on 17/10 to an area of railway between Dundee and Broughty Ferry following a report of a body.

"Officers attended the scene; following enquiries the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

"Efforts are ongoing to locate the person’s next of kin and a report will be prepared for the coroner."

LNER tweeted: "#LNERUpdate Due to a fatality just North of Dundee station the 07:08 #Leeds to #Aberdeen will be delayed between #Leuchers and #Arbroath.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused to your journey today."
