Police have found a body in a coastal area of the Shetland Islands amid the search for missing woman Sharon O'Neill.
Officers were called to an area of shoreline in Lerwick at around 1.50pm on Tuesday, November 15 after receiving a call from a member of the public. There they discovered a body and, although formal identification is still to take place, the family of the missing 46-year-old have been informed.
Sharon had last been seen near the Northlink Ferry Terminal on Holmsgarth Road in the island burgh at around 7pm on Sunday, November 13. Cops had expressed "increasing concern" for her welfare, and said in a previous statement her family had been "understandably worried".
The Coastguard was called in to assist with searches prior to the tragic discovery made earlier on Tuesday. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal on the death, which police say does not appear to be suspicious.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1.50pm on Tuesday, 15 November, police were called to an area of shoreline in Lerwick after the body of a woman was found. Although formal identification is to take place, the next of kin and family of missing woman Sharon O’Neill have been informed.
"There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal."
