A body has been found in search of a missing Scots man who vanished almost a month ago.
Police were called to the grim discovery, that was made at 9.10am this morning, March 15, on the beach near Northfield Road in Burray, Orkney.
Formal identification is yet to take place, however, the family of missing Alan James Murray has been informed.
Alan, from Cullen - more than 200 miles away from the finding- was last seen on February 26 in his hometown.
Police launched an extensive search to trace the 54-year-old, with specialist diving officers drafted in to scan the Moray coastline.
Members of the community also weighed in on the operation as they turned out in droves to take part in walkabouts of the area.
Police Scotland confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
A spokesperson said: "At 9.10 am on Tuesday, March 15, the body of a man was discovered on the beach near to Northfield Road, Burray, Orkney.
“Formal identification has still to take place however the family of Alan James Murray, 54, from Cullen, who has been missing since February 26, has been informed of the discovery.
“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.”
