Body found on Scots beach formally identified by police as missing Romanian woman

A body found on a Scots beach has been formally identified by police as a missing Romanian woman who vanished in January.

The tragic discovery was made near Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club on January 30 - 11 days after Marilena-Maria Maftei was last seen in Inverness.

Officers released an e-fit photograph of the woman whose body was found on the shoreline in a bid to identify her.

Police Scotland previously released an e-fit to try identify the woman whose body was found on the Black Isle (Police Scotland)

Meanwhile, Marilena-Maria, 33, was formally reported missing in March after she failed to make contact with her loved ones, who live abroad.

She was last spotted in the Glenurquhart Road area of the city on January 19.

Police Scotland have today confirmed that the beach body has now been formally identified as a woman who was reported missing on March 22.

Her family have been informed.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective Inspector Craig Still said: "Our thoughts are with the woman's family and friends at this time. They have been fully updated by our officers and ask for privacy at this time.

"I want to take the opportunity to thank everybody who came forward with information or who helped our enquiries in any way in the weeks since she was found."
