Body found on railway line near to Eccles train station

A body was discovered on the railway line near to Eccles train station.

Police and the ambulance service were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks at 5.16am on Friday morning (December 6).

Paramedics pronounced a person dead at the scene.

No further details have been released and an investigation into the circumstances has been launched.

British Transport Police are working to identify the person and tell their next-of-kin.

Train services were suspended throughout the morning rush-hour while emergency services attended the scene.

Northern, Transpennine Express and Transport for Wales routes were affected.

A BTP spokeswoman said: "Officers were called to Eccles station at 5.16am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
