Body found on M5 identified as missing woman

The body of a woman whose body was found on the motorway has been identified.

The M5 in Gloucestershire was closed for several hours on Wednesday, October 30, as police investigated.

Officers said they now believe they know the identity of the person who died.

Gloucestershire Police said the family of a 66-year-old woman who had been reported missing in Gloucester have been informed of the death.

A spokesman said: "Following detailed investigative work they believe that the body was that of a woman who was reported missing during the morning of 30 October, a number of hours after the incident was reported."

Officers are not treating the death as suspicious and are compiling a report for the coroner.

Police thanked everyone who responded to appeals for information and dashcam footage following the incident, and road users for "their patience and understanding".

Police closed the route in both directions between junction 11A at Brockworth and junction 12 for Quedgeley, roughly 20 miles north of where the M5 meets the M4.
