Body found on Longniddry beach confirmed by police to be local 79-year-old man

Police in East Lothian have confirmed that the man found dead on Longniddry beach has been identified.

Earlier today (Thursday) officers issued an appeal to help identify the man, after he was discovered yesterday.

At around 10.15am on Wednesday, officers received a report that a man's body had been found on the beach, near Longniddry Golf Club

However, it has now been stated that the man is a 79-year-old resident from the local area.

Members of the public and those in the area have been thanked for their assistance in the investigation.

It was also confirmed that there are not believed to be any suspiscious circumstances surrounding the death, with a report to be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.

In a statement from Police Scotland, it said:

"Police Scotland can confirm the body discovered on the beach at Longniddry on Wednesday, 4 November, has been identified as a 79-year-old man from the local area.

"The media and members of the public are thanked for their assistance with this matter.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
