Body found on Dorset beach after man in his 20s swept out to sea

A body has been found after a man was swept out to sea while walking on the Dorset coast.

Police were called at 2.55pm on Sunday, 3 November over concerns for a man and a woman in the water.

A wave had reportedly swept them both out to sea as they walked on the Bridport beach, near Freshwater Beach Holiday Park.

The woman was able to make it back to shore and was treated by paramedics. A search was launched by police and the coastguard for the missing man, aged in his 20s.

On Monday morning the body of a man was pulled from the water at nearby Hive beach.

Dorset Police spokeswoman said: “Officers carried out extensive searches, assisted by HM Coastguard, the RNLI, the National Police Air Service helicopter and the ambulance service.

“On Monday a body of a man was very sadly found on Hive beach.

“While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the man who went missing near to Freshwater Beach Holiday Park.”

Police said the man’s family had been informed and the local coroner notified.
