Body found on beach in search for missing Scots pensioner

A body has been found on a beach in the search for a pensioner who disappeared in Montrose on Monday afternoon.

John Flett, 78, was last seen in the Angus town’s Wellington Park at about 4.30pm.

He is white, around 5ft. 4 inches in height with a medium build and short, greying, hair.

Tragically Police Scotland confirmed a body was found on a local beach on Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesman said: "Around 1:30pm on Tuesday, 20 October, 2020, police received a report a man’s body had been found on a beach in St Cyrus.

"Emergency services are in attendance and officers believe it to be 78-year-old John Flett, reported missing from Montrose this morning. 

"A formal identification has still to take place, however, Mr Flett’s family has been notified.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

Mr Flett's family visited him on Tuesday morning, found his house empty and immediately raised the alarm.

He had never gone missing before and was always in touch with relatives.
