Body found on beach in search for missing Ayrshire man Corry Ferguson

A body has been found on a beach in Irvine in search for missing man Corry Ferguson.

Police were called to the grim discovery that was made at around 6.45am today at Irvine Beach Park.

Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of 26-year-old Corry, who has been missing from Saltcoats since March 1, have been made aware.

Cops said his death is currently being treated as unexplained but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

It comes after a post on a Facebook page set-up to help find Corry told followers the search for him had been cancelled.

It read: "Firstly on behalf of the family we would like to thank every last person for the support and help in The search for Corry.

Corry Ferguson was last seen leaving a Spar shop in Saltcoats on March 1 (Police Scotland)

"We can confirm that the search for Corry is cancelled, we can’t disclose any information as of yet purely because we don’t know anything ourselves.

"The family are going to take the next few days to process the loss of Corry, can we please ask that they be given some space to grieve. "

Corry was last seen leaving a Spar shop on Wheatley Road, Saltcoats at around 9.35am on Tuesday, March 1.

There had been no sightings of him since and his bank account had been inactive since the day of his disappearance.

Speaking to the Daily Record previously, Corry's cousin Kylie McBlane said the not knowing what had happened to him was killing his family.

She added: "It's like he's just vanished. The not knowing is killing us. We just want to know what's happened to him or where he is.

"Is he in danger? Has someone taken him? We just don't know anything.

"All the unanswered questions we have are so hard to deal with.

"We just desperately want him back."
