Body found off the Wirral coast confirmed as third missing fisherman Alan Minard

A body found off the coast of the Wirral has been identified as one of the three missing fishermen from north Wales.

Alan Minard, 20, went missing with his crewmates, Ross Ballantine, 39, and Carl McGrath, 34, onboard the Nicola Faith which failed to return to port in Conwy on January 27.

A major sea search involving the RNLI was carried out but no trace of the boat or the men was found, resulting in the search being called off on January 29.

On March 15, North Wales Police confirmed it had informed the families of the three fishermen after the discovery of three bodies off the coast of the Wirral and Blackpool.

The force has now confirmed that the body found on the Wirral has been identified as that of Mr Minard.

A statement from North Wales Police read: "We can confirm that the body found on The Wirral on Sunday, March 14 is that of 20-year-old Alan Minard, who went missing along with two others on the Conwy fishing boat 'Nicola Faith' in January.

"The family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. The family would like to thank the local community and businesses for their tremendous support and donations, and request that their privacy be respected at this time.

"The thoughts of everyone at North Wales Police remains with the families and friends of the three fishermen."

On March 22, the force confirmed that a body discovered on a beach in Blackpool had been identified as that of Mr McGrath.

The following day on March 23, police confirmed the discovery of Mr Ballantine's body in West Kirby.
