Body found near the Portway in Bristol

There is a heavy police presence on the Portway in Bristol today (April 28) after a body was found.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing around five police cars and ambulances at the scene, near the tunnel close to Bridge Valley Road.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesman has confirmed a man has died in unexplained circumstances.

In a statement they said: “We were called at just before midday after a member of the public found the body of a man on land off the Portway.

“The man’s death is being treated as unexplained and we are making efforts to identify him and locate his next of kin.”

Traffic monitoring site Inrix says: "Very slow traffic on Portway heading towards The Centre, near Bridge Valley Road."

Elsewhere in and around Bristol there are long delays caused by a serious crash on the A38. The road has been closed at Redhill, near the Darlington Arms, and diversions are in place.

Three people were taken to hospital, with at least one of them described as having 'serious injuries'.
