Body found in woods by member of the public in search for missing man

A body has been found in woods in the search for a "severely depressed" man reported missing by his family.

Peter Bebbington, 34, was last seen at his home in Ellesmere Port at around 5.20am on Sunday, August 11.

Today Cheshire Police   confirmed a body was found in a wooded area, close to New Bridge Road, at around 9.30am on Saturday, August 17.

Formal identification has not yet taken place but the Force confirmed Peter's family has been informed.

A police spokesman said: "Officers searching for a missing Ellesmere Port man have found a body.

"The body was discovered by a member of the public in a wooded area near to New Bridge Road, in the town, shortly before 9.30pm on Saturday 17 August.

"Formal identification has not yet taken place, although the family of 34-year-old missing man Peter Bebbington have been informed of the discovery."

On the day of his disappearance his partner, Faye Morris, awoke in the night to find Peter in a "distressed state" and rang his dad for help.

Peter's dad told Faye to "ring 999" but by the time she got off the phone he had gone.

His sister, Becky Bebbington, 26, from Ellesmere Port, told the ECHO at the time: "He's severely depressed so he goes through moments when he gets suicidal and my dad helps to calm him down.

"His girlfriend said we need to call your dad but he didn't want that so she went in the kitchen and shut the door to phone him and during the time she's been on the phone he left.

"We have no indication of where he went or what direction he's gone in. We are trying to solve all these unanswered questions.

"We just want him to know that there's people that love him and we want to help him. We are a very strong family and we can be there for him."

Friends, relatives and well-wishers in Ellesmere Port had organised search parties to find Peter before the tragic discovery.
