Body found in Wigan after 'concern for welfare of a man in the water'

The body of a man has been found in water following a concern for welfare call.

Emergency services were scrambled to Stratton Drive, in Platt Bridge, Wigan, just after 3.30pm this afternoon (Monday October 11).

It followed reports of a man in the water, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed.

A GMP spokesman said: "At 3.36pm this afternoon (11 October) police were called to a report of a concern for the welfare of a man in the water close to Stratton Drive, Platt Bridge.

"Emergency services attended and sadly the body of a man was located.

"Officers remain at the scene."

The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) confirmed that they attended, along with GMP.

A GMFRS spokesman confirmed that firefighters left the scene at around 6pm.
