Body found in water after major search operation at Hawes Pier in South Queensferry

A body has been found after a three-hour search operation in water near the Forth Bridge.

Lifeboat crews and coastguard teams joined police and ambulance in responding to reports of a person entering the water near Hawes Pier in South Queensferry on Friday afternoon.

They were initially called to the scene at around 3.30pm and remained there until the body was found shortly after 6pm.

The Daily Record reports that the condition of the person is not yet known.

A spokesperson for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said that teams were called to the scene by the ambulance service to assist after reports of a person entering the water.

They add: "A lifeboat from South Queensferry responded along with a number of commercial vessels.

"A coastguard team from South Queensferry also attended. Crews were stood down at around 6.15pm.

"A body was recovered and it is now a matter for the police."
