Body found in Stanley Park of family pet beaten to death

A puppy was beaten to death and dumped at a Liverpool park.

RSPCA inspectors believe the tiny pup was hit with a weapon in a brutal attack.

His body was then stashed in an Adidas bag that was abandoned at Stanley Park.

A member of the public made the horrific discovery at around 5pm on Sunday.

After spotting the bag and believing it to be suspicious, they opened it to find the bulldog-type puppy.

Inspector Joanne McDonald was sent to the scene and she took the brown and white puppy to a nearby vets for an examination.

The vet found a large injury to the top of his head and more facial injuries, suggesting the pup probably died during an attack.

Insp McDonald is now appealing for anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.

She said: "The puppy had a severe head injury suggesting it had been hit possibly with a weapon and also had a number of facial injuries.

"The body was then placed in this Adidas bag and dumped near a bin at the entrance to the park.

"The dog is not microchipped so we are appealing for anyone who recognises this puppy and who owned him to contact us.

"I would also like to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in this area at around the time the bag was found.

"It is a very distinctive satchel which a member of the public may recognise or they may have seen someone carrying it in the area before the body was found."
