Body found in search for missing Scots woman near Elgin monument

Police in Elgin have confirmed that a body has been discovered in the search for a local woman missing in the area.

Officers stated that the tragic discovery was made in the Blackfriars Road area of the town, near the Elgin monument.

They added that the body was found at around 10 am on Saturday, November 13, with the deceased being formally identified as Inga Van Der Heiden.

Inga had been reported missing from Elgin and was last seen on last seen around 7 am on Thursday.

Her family has been made aware of the discovery.

Detectives involved in the investigation thanked members of the public for their help, and said there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 10am on Saturday, 13 November, the body of a woman was found in the Blackfriars Road area of the town, near the Elgin monument.

"The deceased has been formally identified as Inga Van Der Heiden, reported missing from Elgin. Her family are aware.


"There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

"The media and member of the public are thanked for their support during our investigation.

"The family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this time."

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "Burghead, Buckie, Portsoy, Nairn and Macduff coastguard rescue teams were sent to assist with a search after Police Scotland asked for HM Coastguard support."
