Body found in search for missing Scots pensioner with dementia

A body has been found in the search for a missing Scots pensioner suffering from dementia.

We told how David McLeod was reported missing last week in the Borders.

The 78-year-old left his home in Woodstock Avenue in Galashiels 'to buy a newspaper' on Thursday, December 16 and loved ones haven't seen him since.

The pensioner was spotted at around 9.15pm that night walking near to the Ship Inn, East Port, Melrose, towards the A6091, Melrose bypass.

Police helicopter teams, Borders Water Rescue and Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue squads were drafted in to help locate David.

Lothians and Scottish Borders Police Division released a statement on Sunday evening, stating that a body had been found.

While formal identification is yet to take place, David's loved ones have been informed.

There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the tragic find.

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
