Body found in search for missing Lucas Dobson, 6, who was swept away in River Stour

A body has been found in the search for missing Lucas Dobson who was swept away in the River Stour over the weekend.

The six-year-old boy disappeared on Saturday at around 1.20pm.

Kent Police confirmed on Wednesday morning that a body had been found but is yet to be formally identified.

Lucas' family have been told.

Chief Inspector Mark Weller of Kent Police said: "This is a deeply tragic and upsetting incident for all concerned, and Lucas' family are understandably devastated.

"We were inundated with offers of assistance from members of the public, who turned out in large numbers to help search for Lucas. I know his family are very grateful and touched by the support provided, and I too would like to offer my own personal thanks.

"I would also like to recognise the efforts of our partners from Kent Fire and Rescue Service, HM Coastguard, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and others who assisted in the search for Lucas."

The schoolboy is said to have been attempting to climb onto a boat when he fell into the water.

Three men, including his dad, jumped in to try and rescue the youngster but the current was said to be too strong.

Hundreds have joined in the search for Lucas and Kent Fire and Rescue Service had thanked everyone for their help in locating the boy before this morning's discovery.
