Body found in search for missing Liam Smith in remote woodland

A body of a male has been found in a remote wooded area of Banchory, Aberdeenshire.

Police say formal identification has yet to take place but the family of missing 16-year-old Liam Smith from Aberdeen have been notified.

Enquiries are ongoing but cops do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

The body was found following a report from a member of the public at around 3pm on Friday, in the area of Craig of Affrusk.

Liam was last seen on Saturday, November 17, 2018, boarding a Banchory-bound bus.

CCTV footage showed Liam buying Lucozade, Jaffa Cakes and Dairy Milk at Sainsbury's before he boarded a 202 Stagecoch Bus at Aberdeen's Union Square at 1.11pm.

Police believe he may have got off the bus at Crathes and concentrated their search around that area.

In December cops released video footage filmed from their helicopter showing the vast rural area they were searching.

Schoolboy Liam was from the Queen's Road area of Aberdeen.
