Body found in search for missing Cumbernauld woman

A body has been found in the search for missing Cumbernauld woman, Gillian Ballantyne.

Police have confirmed that a body was found on Friday evening.

The 50-year-old had been reported missing from the Bannock area on Tuesday and hadn't been traced since leaving her home in Coneypark Park around 10am that day.

Police launched an urgent search to trace Gillian but sadly a body was discovered last night.

Gillian's next of kin have been made aware and a report will now be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

A police statement said: "A body has been found in the Cumbernauld area during searches for missing person Gillian Ballantyne.

"Her body was found during the evening of Friday, 9 July.

"Her next of kin are aware.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
