Body found in search for missing County Durham pensioner David Jolly

A body has been found during the search for a missing pensioner in County Durham.

David Jolly, 74, did not return to his home in Kirk Merrington, near Bishop Auckland , after saying he was going for a walk at around 11am on Sunday.

A search was launched to find him and his car was later found parked in a lay-by on the A177 near Shincliffe, on the outskirts of Durham City .

A body of a man was discovered in a field in Shincliffe shortly before 1.30pm on Monday afternoon.

Formal identification has not yet taken place but officers believe it to be Mr Jolly.

His family have been informed of the discovery.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
