A body has been found in the search for a missing County Durham man.

David Hardy, from Murton, was reported missing after leaving his home address on Thursday night at around 9.30pm.

Police issued an urgent appeal to the public for help to locate the 37-year-old and released his picture and description.

However, on Friday afternoon they confirmed the sad news that his body had been discovered.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "We are sorry to report that a body has been found in the search for David Hardy.

"The body of a man was found in the Dalton Park area early this morning, which has since been confirmed as that of the 37-year-old.

"David’s family have been informed.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
