Body found in search for missing British backpacker Amelia Bambridge in Cambodia

A body has been found in the search for missing British backpacker Amelia Bambridge in Cambodia.

Cambodian Police have confirmed they located a body at sea more than 30 miles from the island of Koh Rong where Amelia disappeared.

No identity has been confirmed.

The 21-year-old, from West Sussex, was last seen by friends at a beach party on the island more than one week ago.

She was due to check out of her youth hostel, Nest Beach Club, on Friday afternoon but failed to return to her room.

The following morning, her ruck sack was discovered on rocks at the beach with her purse, phone and bank cards inside.

Six men were questioned about her disappearance but no charges were filed against them.

Earlier this week, Amelia's family flew out to the southeast Asian country to assist around 150 volunteers and Cambodian police in searches of the shoreline and jungle.

Her father Phil Bambridge, said he believed she had been "taken".

He told Sky News: "I don't think she's had an accident. If she'd had an accident she would have been found by now."

On Wednesday, the police chief for Preah Sihanouk province, where Amelia was last seen by friends, said he believed she had drowned.

Cambodian police official Chuon Narin said searches of Koh Rong island and in the Gulf of Thailand had failed to provide any information about her disappearance, but searches would continue until she was found.

"We have decided the search mission will not be ended until we find her alive, or her body if she has died," he said.
