Body found in search for missing boy, 17, who went to college and never came home

A body has been found in the search for a missing teenager who disappeared during his journey home from college.

Matthew Young, 17, was last seen in Bury town centre at around 2.30pm on Wednesday and his disappearance had been described it as being 'out of character'.

Matthew was described as a white, 6ft tall male, of slim build with ginger hair and glasses, Manchester Evening News reports.

He was last seen wearing a green jacket, dark jeans, black boots and was carrying a black ruck sack.

A public appeal for help was issued on Thursday as concerns grew for the teenager but a body was sadly found hours later.

Formal identification has not yet taken place.

Police say they are not treating the death as suspicious.

Tributes have been paid to Matthew on social media.

One person posted: "RIP Matthew, lost of words, shocked to hear, thoughts for family. God give them strength."

Another commented: "Very sad news reaching us this morning. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends."
