Body found in search for hillwalker who went missing near Scots mountain top

Police have discovered a body in the search for Bo'ness man Stuart Baillie who went missing while on a Scots mountain.

The 60-year-old from set out to walk on a route to Aonach Beag and Aonach Mor from the Steall Falls car park in Glen Nevis on Monday.

The alarm was raised after he failed to return sparking a major search operation involving dogs from Search and Rescue Dogs Association and a Coastguard helicopter.

Police confirmed he went missing around 2.10pm that afternoon near the summit of Aonach Beag, a mountain near Ben Nevis and Fort William.

Now they say they have recovered a body.

Formal identification has yet to take place but his family has been informed.

There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Officers searching for Stuart Baillie, 60, from Bo’ness, who was reported missing after failing to return from a walk in Glen Nevis on Monday, 20 December, 2021, have recovered the body of a man.


"Formal identification has yet to take place but Mr Baillie's family has been informed.

"There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
