Body found in River Thames near school as police urge public to stay away from area

A body has been found in the River Thames near a school as the public were urged to stay away from the area, police have confirmed.

Officers are searching a tow path in Waterside Drive, Walton-on-Thames, south west London.

Surrey Police, paramedics, firefighters and Surrey Search and Rescue were called to the scene at around 12.15pm after being told a body had been discovered in the water.

The public have been asked to stay away from the area as police continue to investigate.

Details about the identity of the body have yet to be released.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said: "We're currently in attendance along the tow path on Waterside Drive in Walton-on-Thames after reports of a body found in the river.

"Officers, along with other emergency services, will remain at the scene for the foreseeable future.

"Please avoid the area for the time being."

Surrey Police have been contacted for more information on the ongoing incident.
