Body of young man found in river near Porth

The body of a young man has been found in a river near Porth .

Emergency services attended the scene on Pontypridd Road near Morrisons at around 5.30am on Saturday.

South Wales Police said although formal identification has not yet taken place, the body is believed to be that of a local man in his 20s.

The deceased's devastated family has been informed and they are now being being assisted by specialist officers.

A force spokewoman added: "There are no suspicious circumstances, but enquiries are ongoing."

Earlier today, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the body had been retrieved from the Rhondda River.

A spokeswoman said fire crews from Tonypandy, Pontypridd , Malpas and Barry attended the scene.

Part of Pontypridd Road was closed while emergency services were in attendance, but the road is now open.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said it was "aware of the incident", but did not attend the scene.
