Body found in river in central Cardiff

A body has been found in central Cardiff.

Specialist police officers made the discovery in an area of the River Taff in Cardiff on Thursday.

They were searching for missing man Taha Deria when the discovery was made.

Sonar equipment was used to check the River Taff from Wood Street towards Penarth Road.

Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of the 32-year-old missing man has been informed.

Mr Deria, who is described by family as vulnerable due to his mental health, was last seen leaving his home on Penarth Road, Grangetown , last Thursday.

Residents and businesses in the Penarth Road were asked to check their CCTV for any sighting of the Taha, who was last seen wearing a black jacket, black jogging bottoms and Adidas sliders.

At the time, his family raised concerns after he left the house without money, medication, mobile phone or any other belongings.

This morning, police resumed their search by using sonar equipment to check the River Taff due to the river's proximity to his home address.

A file of evidence is now being prepared for HM Coroner.
