Body found in River Clyde in search for missing man Stewart Gray

A body has been found in the River Clyde during the hunt for a missing man.

Police began searching for Stewart Gray, 62, after he vanished last week.

Officers now believe he has been found, after a body was recovered from the River Clyde, near the small village of Symington, Lanarkshire.

The body was recovered early on Thursday morning, and formal identification is yet to take place.

But Police Scotland said Mr Gray's family have been informed of the body find, and that the death is currently being treated as unexplained.

A force spokesperson said: "Police Scotland can confirm the body of a man was recovered from the River Clyde at Symington around 6am on Thursday.

"The man has still to be formally identified but the family of 62-year-old missing man Stewart Gray – who had been reported missing on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 – have been informed.

"The death is been treated as unexplained, however there are no apparent suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

"A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
