Body found in River Clyde in search for missing man Robert Kelly

The family of a missing Scots man have been told of a body found in the River Clyde.

Formal identification has not yet taken place but the family of 44-year-old Robert Kelly have been told of the grim discovery.

A huge search and rescue operation was launched at around 7.05pm on Saturday following reports of a 44-year-old getting into difficulty.

Local residents reported a heavy presence of police vehicles near Strathclyde Path in Uddingston as searchers raced to the scene.

Searches continued into Sunday and a body was discovered on Monday.

Robert was reported as missing on Saturday.

A police spokesman said: "Police Scotland can confirm that the body of a man was recovered from the River Clyde near Uddingston, around 2pm on Monday.

"Family of missing man Robert Kelly, 44, who has been missing since Saturday have been made aware of the discovery.

"Formal identification is yet to take place and a post mortem will carried out in due course to establish the exact cause of death.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious."
