Body found in River Clyde in search for missing Bellshill man Lawrence Penswick


The family of a missing Lanarkshire man have been informed after a body was pulled from the River Clyde.

The tragic discovery was made near the Broomielaw in Glasgow at around 2.30am on Friday, December 31.

While he has yet to be formally identified, Lawrence Penswick’s loved ones have been notified by police.

The 57-year-old was last seen on Babylon Road in Bellshill at around 2.40am on Friday, December 3.

Officers believe he visited Strathclyde Country Park at some point as some of his belongings were recovered near the south side of the waterway.

A force spokesperson confirmed the tragic update on Friday.

They said: “The body of a man has been recovered from the River Clyde near the Broomielaw in Glasgow around 2.30am on Friday, 31 December.

“He is still to be formally identified. However, the family of Lawrence Penswick, 57, who was reported missing from Bellshill on Friday, 3 December, has been informed.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
