Body found in River Clyde following huge search by emergency services

A body has been recovered from the River Clyde this morning following a huge search operation.

Dozens of emergency service vehicles raced to the city centre at around 4.15am after reports of a disturbance on Clyde Street.

A major rescue mission was launched after a man was spotted running away and jumping into the water along the suspension bridge.

Police Scotland have confirmed a man has died.

A spokesperson said:  "At 4.15am this morning, police were called to reports of a disturbance on Clyde Street.

"On arrival, they saw a man running away and jumping into the water along the suspension bridge.

"With assistance from the marine force, coastguard, fire service and ambulance crews, police tried to rescue him.

"The body has since been recovered and enquires are continuing."
