Body found in river amid search for missing Scots pensioner

A body has been discovered by police amid the search for a missing Scots pensioner.

Officers made the grim discover in the river at Vinny Den, near Letham in Forfar, around 2.40pm on Friday February 26.

An 83-year-old's body was pulled from the water.

Although identification is yet to take place, the family of Ian Chrystall have been made aware.

Mr Chrystall had been missing from his home in Letham Village since that morning.

His passing is not being treated as suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police Scotland can confirm that the body of an 83-year-old man was found in the river at Vinny Den near Letham in Forfar around 2.40pm on Friday, 26 February.

“The family of missing man Ian Chrystall, who had been missing from his home address in Letham Village since the morning of Friday, 26 February, have been made aware of the discovery.

“Formal identification is yet to take place and a post mortem will be carried out in due course to establish the exact cause of death.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
