Body found in river amid search for missing Scots Alzheimers pensioner

The body of a man has been found in a river amid the search for a missing Scots pensioner with Alzheimers.

Walter Anderson, 84, was reported missing from his home yesterday.

New CCTV was published showing Walter walking westwards on Lanark Road West in Edinburgh at about 5am on Friday morning.

Now cops have tragically confirmed that around 9.50pm last night a body was discovered the river at the rear of Harlaw Road in Balerno on the outskirts of the capital.

The dead man has been formally identified as Walter and his family have been made aware of the discovery.

A statement issued by police reads: "The deceased has been formally identified as Walter Anderson ,84, who had been reported missing from the Edinburgh area. His relatives are aware.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

"The media and members of the public are thanked for their support during our investigation."
