Body found in park as police and forensics swarm area 'near lake'

A body has been found in Longton Park, Staffordshire, police say.

Emergency services are at the scene after the discovery was made shortly after 8am today.

A witness said they saw a forensics tent and police paramedics swarming the area near the lake at the park in the town of Longton.

An eye witness at the park told StokeonTrent Live they had seen a large number of police near the body of water at the bottom of the park.

A spokeswoman for the Staffordshire Police chief inspector told the Mirror emergency services were called to reports of a dead body at Longton Park around 8.20am.

An investigation at the scene was underway, she said.

The force declined to comment on the location of the body.

A witness told local reporters: "There are lots of police vehicles and an incident tent close to the lake area."

Another park-goer there when the area was cordoned off this morning said: "It seems to be something to do with the lake at the bottom of the park. It is swarming with police."

Police had cordoned off the park and were blocking all entrances following the discovery this morning.
